I'm guessing Jason probably inputs a match by doing that task and that task alone. If you are strictly focused on that one task then yes, you'll be fine. If you'd rather actually half watch the match (because I'm not simply inputting the match, I'm playing along with both players), input the match, and do other things like post on your forums, answer emails, or check out auctions while inputting the match it will make it a lot harder and quite annoying. So there simply is no upside and definitely downside for a fair amount of people who input matches.

If I point out an issue and your solution is another step I have to take to make your issue work then it's still an issue. Who wants to look at whose clock is running to figure out who is on roll every time you look at a position?! Maybe this sounds like no big deal on the surface but actually do it, it's quite the pain in the ass. You look at the board, naturally you look at the dice first, then you go to the clock to see whose time is running, then back to the dice and knowing who is on roll now you start to think about your play. In what may seem like a small amount of time a lot could have happened and you're robbed of thinking about your own decision because one was already made OtB and the game moves on. Also you have to have Table Tennis eyes every time you look away from the board and come back to it for your solution to work. Or what if you're watching online and the clock isn't in frame, or what if it's in frame (live or online) and you've got some clock on crack that looks like this!? Or what about this clock where nobody's time is running until the delay runs out so there's no way of knowing by looking at the clock? These are just a couple of examples that came up by the top results of 'backgammon match' when I searched on YT. I'm sure there are more issues I'm not even trying to find.

With cups I basically get to look straight ahead where I'm already looking and see the player shake + roll. With a baffle box I have to follow the action off to the side and often a player is still shaking and rolling from a cup. It creates extra work, plain and simple.

The more minor inconveniences something adds the more major those issues become. Maybe almost everyone would be okay with it if it was one small issue. Maybe the vast majority would be okay with two small issues. Maybe even most people would be okay with three small issues. Maybe most people don't care enough about all of them because they aren't inputting matches and they aren't watching matches to the point of having to see Baffle Boxes in use or they aren't watching online. Fine for them but for me personally they cramp my pretty fly for a white guy style. I won't have them and I have yet to see any reason that I personally should ever be forced to use one.
