I wonder whether you would really not participate in a tournament where BB Preference applied?
I definitely would not participate in a tournament where I realized ahead of time that there was a preference for Baffle Boxes. I also wouldn't attend a tournament where they didn't allow ear buds/AirPods/etc. While it's not really saying much because I don't attend tournaments any more and if I was going to I could easily skate around the ones that have these rules in place since I don't feel the need to go to any specific tournament. Still, you can only vote with your feet in backgammon and I'd rather evade any nonsense rules even existing. (Shout out to changing dice on checkers, hey ya!)
do you agree with the suggestion that the opponent of the player requiring the box should have sole discretion as to whether cups must be used with it?
Not exactly. I simply think cups should still be required. Allowing players to have full control of the dice in their hands with no impediments makes it easier to cheat. Not that I'm really worried about this but unless there's an upside for no cups I see no reason to have the option.
