13/7* 8/5(2) makes 5pt and put Stick on the bar but also leaves 13 shots. Way too much. Pure and wide open 8/5(2) 6/3(2) will be my choice if I know that Stick will miss our blots next turn. 24/21 9/6 8/5(2) is safe and ugly which is often case. It is true that we are 30 pips ahead in race but those six checkers on 6pt don't look good for my eye. Such stacks are blots generators as Robertie stated in his 'Modern backgammon'. Also with only eight checkers into zone our split back checkers are not in immediate danger so we can postpone making anchor. What's about forget to make 5pt and make barpt instead with putting Stick on the bar as bonus? Too bloty and break midpoint.
Difficult one. Well, 5pt is must, hit loose on barpt leave too much shots, anchor is not high priority, safe play leaves danger stack. In positions where there is no safe and fine choice available I like to put my checkers where I like them for long term. It means be pure. Strategy prevail tactics here.
8/5(2) 6/3(2)
