Interesting how increasing white's gammon chances, for example could move back spare on 6 point 10 pips, actually pushes the decision towards cubing.

Seems like a paradox. Is there a name for it already? If not, I think pointing out the paradoxical nature of it is a key step, but JOH provided the position and analysis so I suggest O'Hagan - Koca paradox with JOH being first name listed.
