What's Missing in Backgammon

Frank's point is dead-on: The answer lies in getting more young people to play.
I managed a local group for many years. The problem was clear: the bulk of players were not young.
A related problem is that not enough *women* play. I missed the heyday of BG, but my understanding is that lots of women played at clubs, bars, etc.
This got me thinking that the laser-focused approach should be to attract young women. That will enhance the social aspect of the game; more young women will mean more young men.
Another issue to consider is play format. The more seasoned folk enjoy playing tournaments. My sense is that the younger crowd welcomes heads-up play. I would like to hear from the folk who played in the good old days whether my hunch is correct.
