Hit, Split, Unstack, or something else?

Covering the blot on the three point seems pretty obvious, so hitting is out. That leaves a choice between splitting or just playing quietly off the six point to unstack.
Is it too late to split, with ten checkers in the zone? I thought it was, but apparently not. From what I've read, nine in the zone is a weak blitz, eleven is a strong blitz, and ten is neither particularly strong or weak.
Any general advice for how to evaluate "too late to split?" positions cheerfully accepted.
