A _New_ World Championship?!

Geez, just what BG needed.

Now BG will start to look like professional boxing, with its plethora of "world champions" in each weight class, crowned by an acronym jumble of sanctioning organizations.

Instead maybe BG should follow the model of MMA, where I sense the public recognizes that there are different promotional entities (the most prestigious of which is the UFC).

I have seen that when the UFC trumpets one of its champions, it goes something like: "The UFC X-weight champion of the World"--a bit cumbersome; slightly misleading; but not implicitly absolutist.

In a way, this discussion reminds me of Major League Baseball, which calls its championship the "World Series". Have you even seen a team from a country besides the USA play in that series . . . or the tournament that leads up to it.

Would be best if UFC called its campions "The UFC X-weight champion", and that for example, Bellator called its champions "The Bellator X-weight Champion". For baseball, perhaps "The MLB Championship Series" would be a much more accurate name.

Sticking "World" in a title, championship or event makes it sound a lot more prestigious . . . and marketable.

I hope BG does not travel down the deceptive marketing road.
