OtB is seemed pretty simple to me to make the board and we're still likely to pick up an extra blot. Especially because of where are spares are and what good use this roll makes of them. However as we can see we don't pick up another blot often enough for the gammon tally and also I'm guessing there's the slight effect of times when we get stuck there by rolling bad 5s and 3s for a couple of turns. Still, I think the safe OtB play is to make the board. Trying to be a genius all the time in backgammon won't work out well for us.
