Can we deduce a general rule ?

The general rules, as I see them are:

1) Stay even-ended.

2) Avoid gaps

3) It's usually best to bear a checker off if you can.

All of which point towards ripping one off the three point. But (spoiler alert) that's not what the bot wants to do.
