BGO Plan for 2026

As the regulars reading this know, this forum is dragging to say the very least. Facebook has really taken over sharing everything from positions to tournament information/results to general questions about BG. Personally I hate this and it's not because they're 'my' forums. It's because I believe one of the many necessary things backgammon should have a free central forum hub where all of these things and more can be shared. Where willing, the most knowledgeable players share their information with others. Where if you want to search for something from years ago you can find it easily. Where ... well, etc...and a lot of etc...(and etc...that trails violently away from FB)
I make zero dollars from this site/the forums. In fact, it's a monthly bill that I've floated for about 18 years now, rain or shine. I'm more than happy to do it when I feel it's some sort of clear net positive for the game. Of late though it feels more like myself, O'Hagan, and ah_clem are having our own little daily problem with the occasional pop from a Ballard or a Berger peaking their head through. Thankfully Jason Lee comes with problems from his + Chuck's battle with XG. And maybe a UBK or CMC will sneak in there or any of another small handful of people. In short, it has become not worth it to me.
It's a crying shame when any bg site that was once known or used goes under. I wish Kit still had his forums. (Gammonline/GammonU) I wish Hardy's backgammon forum still existed. (German) I wish rec.games.backgammon didn't do whatever it did. And on and on. (Gridgammon RIP basically and it had the best interface and most potential) I'm ecstatic that Tom Keith has kept his page up for reference. I'm thrilled DailyGammon is still around. I try to pop into these places once in a while and use the newer sites. (Heroes, Galaxy, yes, I use 'newer' very loosely) You get the point.
So this is a 6 month + warning. If BGO doesn't pick by mid 2026 I'll likely stop paying the bills. I already have 6 months of Positions of the Day to post so come Jan. 1st we'll reset the date and keep current. I also already have some bg related posts and some off topic posts ready to go. If nobody else posts about tournaments and the like (you know, like TDs?) I will steal the info from Facebook and bring it over. I can only do so much and if it still feels like I'm talking to myself after that time frame. Well, RIP BGO.
Pass it on. I already can't believe people wouldn't come here to get free advice from the scant few top tier players that hang around. This is one of the very few games where the player pool has easy free access to the best of the best and somehow that isn't appealing enough.
Feedback, suggestions, or plain bitching, moaning, whining and complaining welcome. GL BGO, GL.
