Once you have a blot on your ace point you should generally cover it at your first opportunity. In this particular position it increases the opponent's fanning numbers from 4/36 (11%) to 9/36 (25%). Also since the opponent has multiple men on the bar it increases the chances that he only comes in with one checker instead of two. Lastly, speaking of blitzes in general, when you're in a (potential) pure blitzing game, the order of your made inner board points is far less important. You want points made so that the opponent has problems entering, the order doesn't matter much.
It's not that we're concerned with being hit but there are very few situations in backgammon where we want to be hit. (backgames)
Now that I think of it, this guy who used to play backgammon wrote a pretty decent article devoted solely to covering the ace point blot. You have to be a member of GV to see it in its entirety but if you aren't just take his word for it and cover the ace point.
