In creating the variants, my main concept for each might be abbreviated this way:

In the original position, keeping the midpoint gives White awkward (or direct-shot-leaving) numbers that play much better (65 especially) When Blue abandons the opposing midpoint in the first variant.

In the second variant, the builders that Blue brings down can be used to make the 4pt, in front of the anchor.
