NY Metro Day 1 - Comments + Match File

I started with good intentions. I thought let me see what matches were streamed today and I'll input one, analyze it and upload for anyone who wants a nice live match to review.
The link above will lead you to a doubles match between Rory+Dennis v. Lomuto+Leifer. Since the first Day 1 Stream 2 Link led me the Urso v. Nazarian 13pt SJ Match that ended in one game and then had over 3 hours of nothing I decided to try Rory + Dennis' match. (though maybe I'll go look at that match quickly and post any interesting cubes since it ended with a gammon on an 8 cube, Urso beat Dana.
Unfortunately the first link leads to a match you couldn't pay me to input. First there's the choice of checker color. We have white and tan. Maybe it doesn't immediately seem like that's a bad choice but there isn't a stark contrast in the colors which leads your eyes having to work overtime to find what is where if you try to input such a thing. On top of that look at the dice. That 'red' die is a nightmare. Hardly ever legible.
Day 1 Stream 1 did contain four matches. Two Super Jackpot Matches, One Liberty Cup, and one Doubles. Here's the breakdown of potential matches you can watch.
- Petko v. Nevzat (13pt SJ)
- MCG v. Oliver Squire (13pt SJ)
- Storer v. Hellwag (11pt LCM)
- Petko/Reklaitis v. Kohan/Polatov (7pt D)
The Day 1 Stream 1 link was the best to choose from if you wanted to input a match. The dice were easily read/good color choice. While the checkers were still White and Tan (just why?) it was a different board than in the other stream which made them easier to differentiate. Of all the matches I thought I'd see what Petko was up to these days so I put that in. You can grab it to run though if you like via the link below.
One thing that I thought was funny is the first full roll of the match by Dogan one of his dice goes up on the checkers. It clearly lays flat fwiw. I have no idea what the rules are for this tournament and I don't care to look them up. I will maintain til my death that this is the dumbest rule change in modern backgammon. It saves no time, it causes confusion, it isn't how anyone plays outside of this little niche they tried to create. I always imagined if I tried to play that in high stakes money games how I'd be laughed off the board. Anyway, Dogan has to ask Petko if they're playing dice on checker. I'm not sure Petko knows either but he says no and they move on establishing the rule for the match if nothing else.
They did roll a lot of dice on checkers during this match. What I would want changed (back?) is that if you roll on the checkers your time doesn't get reset. Seems unnecessary. Either learn to roll or deal with the minor inconvenience of a few seconds ticking off your clock.

For those wanting the bottom line they both played a 3 PR, give or take. Petko used most of his time. Nevzat used almost none of his. If I get requests I'll roll it out and repost it. It went to virtual dmp aka 2a 2a. If you want to know who won you'll have to look somewhere else.
