OK to check positions during breaks?

During a break in the NY Metro final Dirk checked positions with Mochy and it looked like they also checked on XG mobile.

Do the rules used in the NY Metro event state anything about what is allowed during a break?

Is checking positions potentially helpful or irrellevant?
