OK to check positions during breaks?

USBGF rules currently allow this. The reasoning was, as I understood it, that it would be impossible to enforce if discussing positions/concepts wasn't allowed, given that it is common for matches in the U.S. to not be played continuously at the dinner break. Additionally, where the line would be drawn as to what would count/what wouldn't is blurry.
For example, say that I am playing someone you know and after a game, the TD calls dinner break. We go to dinner, and you tell me that my opponent doesn't understand a certain type of position very well. Does this count?
Say we are at dinner and another friend is discussing his match and he refers to the score my match will continue at and begins discussing his cube actions and the take point. Does this count?
Are either of these better/worse than someone looking at analysis of a position that can't come up again with the same score? Is that worse than someone consulting a MET while in the toilet between games?
