A "mad backgame genius" would enter with the ace and play 13/11, daring white to hit and improve his timing. Is this right? I don't think so.

Whacking two is at the opposite end of the spectrum in that it makes an attempt at winning going forward, although it still seems to leave us with enough timing for a backgame. 15/14* instead of 13/12* is worth a look and may be the bot move but 13/12* seems more "normal" so I'll go with that.
