Inviting a blitz here is less detrimental than it would be earlier in the game since you have a good 3 point board so the opponent won't want to take a chance hitting loose going for it. And he only has spares on 2 points so unlikely to point on you.

Being down 40 pips means you will need to hit and leaving the checker on the 24 point plays to that.
