Final Uzbekistan Update

Here's the short of it. Worth noting is that matches were clocked with a delay of 10 seconds. (except speed of course) Mochy actually lost a match (again) on time ...

Main event: - Swiss format, matches to 9 points, eliminated after 3 losses ended up taking 15 rounds to crown a winner. The final match was between Vyacheslav Pryadkin (listed as German, shown on Wiki as Ukrainian, other articles list him as Russian??) and Muradyan Artur (Armenian) with Pryadkin prevailing with a 9-1 victory. First place got $98,640 USD and second place $49,320 USD. Not being there I have no idea if any hedging went on beforehand. Some of you may remember Pryadkin from the 2013 backgammon World Championship where he played Lars Trabolt in the final. Pryadkin won that also.

The entry fee for the main was $500 with 20% taken as the rake. It had $200k added to the prize pool for a total prize pool of $328,000. There were 322 entrants. It should also be noted that a 12% income tax will be withheld for the Republic of Uzbekistan from the big winners.

Doubles: - Michi/Tanaka v. Kandrirali/Y. with the latter team taking first place by a score of 7-4. The final four were paid in doubles. First got $56,400 USD (or 28.2 per person) and second $28,200 (14.1 per person). The entry fee here was $700/team and $40k added.

I think it was a little ugly because it looks like they played from a 128 bracket but only 3 first round matches meaning everyone else got a bye. I just hate when people get byes/others don't in events with big money. They list the participants as 131 which is odd given that it's doubles. (Yes UBK, it'd be odd even if it wasn't doubles ;)

Longgammon: - I'm including because it had the largest amount of added money, $85k, after the main event. It was Swiss also, lose 3 and you're out, with a field of 116. Manukin Tsaruk beat Ignatev Kirill in the finals 7-6. Winner got $38,768 USD and the loser $23,496. Entry fee was $350.
