We don't have to be ahead in the race, or even equal, to lack the timing for a 22-anchor game. But that rather small amount of behind-ness is just perfect for a bar anchor holding game. That's why I want to leave the 22 and commit to the bar anchor for defense.
That doesn't have to be done with my play. Making the 14 looks a little TMP-ish to me but it could be best. I've seen positions where making three points in Oppo's outer board was correct, and this could be one of them. It does have the advantage of leaving no blots.
