One thing on Kit's New Ideas book. I always see it said to be a higher level, strong intermediate to even expert player, to tackle it, as otherwise you may learn 'exceptions' to the general heuristics since they are tough problems.

I don't think that's all that true. I get why it's said, but I learned (late 90s/early 2000s) from NIB and Robertie's Advanced Backgammon. I was glad I did. There wasn't a lot of good beginner or intermediate stuff. And 'garbage in, garbage out'.

Summary, I don't remember NIB being full of exceptions. I think it's backgammon. Sure, I also read Magriel at the same time , in fact pretty sure my first books, Magriel and AB 1 and 2, were in the same shipment from Carol Joy Cole. NIB not much later.

I am about to dive back into 'What's Your Gameplan'. :) Reading heuristics from top players as Mary and Marty, not just bot results, always jump starts my game, which it needs right now. Wish I'd bought a second copy when it was available, lol.
