If we get extra checkers sent back, but can't release them to join the building crew, we might find that they add more to our chance of getting BGd than of winning the game. And if the building operation goes badly or just doesn't happen, we could get a shot, hit it and lose anyway. The ace-deuce backgame is bad in that way, because Oppo doesn't have to let checkers leave its forward point for quite a long time compared to other backgames.

So I like making the 5 point. We're sure to want it if we get a hit, and nothing else looks better to me than just grabbing it now. If we decide to try to force Oppo to hit another checker, I think it will be better to do that after we have at least the start of a board for later. And it might be better not to get another guy sent back anyway.
