I consider, doubling in tournament backgammon in unequal matches the most advanced topic in backgammon theory at all. Before a year or two ago there is similar discussion about it (at gammonline.com which become gammonu.com in meantime) and I was thinking as you. But I chance my mind. The main reason is that to know how to adjusted cube action in unequal match, you should first know how to play vs equal opponent, second you should know by how much you should adjust your cube action and third you have to be able to adjust your cube play for this particular amount of equity. (For example you should double 0.040 earlier than is correct.) Pretty difficult and if you are not very fine technical players you are just not be able to do something like that. Such cube adjustment is usually smaller than most expect. And nothing personal, It is just my opinion form my experience. I first want to able to play perfect or very good cube action and then I will learn theory about unequal matches and try to applied it OtB. Long course.
