Ray Fogerlund v. Joe Russell - Cherry Blossom 2026

First, the match file. For some reason I can't get the link to work like it normally does so you may have to open it in a separate window and manually force the download. (right click >> open link in new tab/window >> click on the URL at the top and hit enter and it should download automatically)

Fogerlund v. Russell Match File

Since I had posted the links for the live streams here on BGO I was bored and figured I'd input a match or two. Clicked over to the tourney and Joe and Ray were playing. Perfect! I'd rather input matches of people I know + are good players. Matches are just generally a lot easier to input when I know what the plays will be without having to watch the players make them. Also, since I never go to tourneys any more I like to check in and see how the people I know are playing these days.

Now I say this with all the love in my heart for these two but they played like regurgitated refried trash pandas. I was seeing so much red and green I had to double check my calendar to make sure it wasn't Christmas time. And let me be clear for anyone already getting offended, playing a 7 PR or 8 PR doesn't mean your general person played like trash. It's because it's Joe Russell playing a 7 and Ray Fogerlund playing an 8 that they played like trash. I think they would both be sick to their stomachs knowing how they played.

I was watching this live and inputting it at the same time. It was not a match full of difficult decisions. It was the last day of the tournament and I know that Joe, busy winning everything, was probably playing on fumes. In fact, during the match, Joe tried five times to make an illegal move. Ray noticed immediately in all instances and corrected him.

I had another post about bg that I had planned on posting soon but this match has put that in question. I guess I should input a couple more from known players to get a better idea. If you'd like to see more match files, let me know and I'll post them.
