I think our anchor gives us enough security for us to take the risk of hitting and leaving the checker there on the 4 point, then playing 9/8 with the ace to give us more covers for a good chance at the gammon if we're missed.

We aren't necessarily crispy critters even if we're hit, because we might bag that checker on Oppo's ace point or hit a return shot on the checker we're already kicking around. So let's go for it while we have an opportunity. Why wait for another shot when we have one now? 6/4* 9/8.
