Hello everyone,
Some of you might already know the web version of Minimalist Backgammon Trainer (MBT) https://backgammon-trainer.ovh/ , which has been live for 6 months now (and was even added to Chicago Point's Gammon Links, I'm so proud, thanks again to them).
Today, I'm happy to present the next big step: MBT is now available for free and ad-free on the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mbt.trainer It’s exactly the same as the web version, which, rest assured, isn’t going anywhere :)
What is MBT? It isn’t just another app for playing backgammon. In fact, in MBT, you don’t play games, earn points, or win matches, and you don’t face off against real people or AI.
MBT is different. Powered by GNU Backgammon (GNUbg), MBT is a trainer designed to help you find the perfect move in realistic game situations. In MBT, you compete against yourself, and only yourself!
MBT's strength lies in two things:
1. All game situations (checkers or cube) are generated randomly and on demand by GNU Backgammon. There is no database with precalculated and "selected" positions: only realistic positions generated by GNU Backgammon, which simulates a real game and stops after a randomly defined number of moves to present you with the position.
2. A classification of the type of error you made when you submit your move (if it is not the best move). MBT analyzes the board and the metric data from GNU Backgammon to provide an error classification. This allows you to know precisely where your weaknesses lie.
In addition:
- the ability to save your biggest mistakes so you can replay them ten days later
- an evaluation that you can take whenever you want, up to once a day, to track your progress
- detailed statistics for each type of game
- the ability to play custom positions
- custom settings for the board’s appearance, the level of detail in the analysis, the language (English, French, Spanish, German, or Turkish) and more
All of this is presented in a minimalist interface, free of distractions, gamification, and ads, designed to be used with one hand in portrait mode and in airplane mode.
MBT is pure backgammon training: no distractions, no stakes, and no stress. It won’t replace your usual gaming apps; it will complement them and make you a better player!
