Why buy an old, obsolete bot that you will "re-found"?

While posting about future bots, I wondered why the owners of XG bought it if they will "re-found" i.e. re-build, re-create it..?
From personal experience of 40-years as programmer, I know that starting a new project from scratch is much easier, faster, cleaner than upgrading an old one.
Or think about building a new house vs remodeling a hundred-years old one, etc.
So why pay money for XG to "re-found" at least its AI? Is the UI so great to be worth money? Perhaps name recognition and a flock of captive existing users?
Any opinions on these vs. the "free advantages" of launching an exciting new product completely breaking away from the old (especially in the software world where being decades-old means being pre-historic)..?
