Driving into work (I wonder if 'books on tape' would work for learning backgammon?) I thought my knowledge of 4 and 5 checkers on the deuce are with the board closed. Is it the same with one point open, or two, on the side with the prime?

Four on the deuce, run, five on the deuce, stay. (For five even if they roll doubles the only missing roll that doesn't save the backgammon is 32) But are those still good if the ace or ace-duece is open so you can pick up another checker? I don't know.
