Interesting blast from the past here. I added that verbiage to wikipedia back in in 2021 to explain gammon go and gammon save, which didn't appear previously.

And as the instigator of this little argument, I should have said quasi-gammon-save instead of other gammon-save scores.

I tend to call scores like odd-away Crawford "quasi-DMP" since gammons don't really matter. But backgammons do, which would be relevant to this position at certain match scores.

Anyway, the gist of the position is that by staying you lose more backgammons than the gammons you save. According to the rollout, you lose a backgammon 23.04% of the time, but save the gammon 22.23. Add in the 2.5% you shake a 66 after running and it's close but clear.
