The higher winning percentage for 13/7(2) appears to hold up if DMP. So I was wondering if buying time to escape the rear checkers was the best heuristic. I think it works, as when gammons count it buys time to escape 'more carefully'. But priming with 13/7(2) may win slightly more at DMP while 8/2*(2) wins more gammons and loses fewer gammons, at I assume many/most other scores, which makes sense.
