In my 2024 post I mentioned possibly transitioning to from webbbs to 'Vanilla' forum but after some more research I think I've found better options.

If it helps, these are my top 2 recommendations now:

1. wpForo Best preservation of what makes BGOnline structurally unusual. Cheap to run and its native Threaded Layout is almost tailor-made for this migration.

2. Discourse Best modern community platform and by far the one I'd choose for a brand-new backgammon community. Fantastic search/discovery and longevity, but sacrifices some of BGOnline's conversation-tree structure. The brand-new free hosting tier makes it worth experimenting with.
