TY to pierrez for this nice problem, and Nack for these instructive variants.

I feel pretty good in going through the variants that I selected the top play ('ok, this change means what...' ) and I think the second best, only due to knowing the first result. No way would I have prior to knowing the initial problem result. (I played the 11/5 6/4* blunder in the first thinking 24/18 6/4* close second, thought the double hit was third.)

Something about this one says 'you have to get these plays right!!' to me, so am saving this for study this weekend.
