1. Don't play Speedgammon.
2. Think about the match score each game before you play your opening roll or response. It's worth a few seconds of your delay to focus on the kind of games you want, what will make you want to double, take, or pass, etc. in a score-specific way.
3. Avoid playing while on the phone. If you're waiting for an important call, play after that call comes. You can always watch other players while waiting.
4. You can't do this at a live tournament, but you can do it online: Play at the best time of day for you, based on your experience. I suspect very few of us, maybe Stick will be the only one, play their best game at 2 a.m. >>
5. If a chat window pops, tell them you'll get back to them after the match. If they're just telling you that your opponent is an idiot, give them a quick LOL, close the window and refocus on the match.
6. Don't play imagining the bot looking over your shoulder. Play to win the match, not just to keep the bot happy. To improve PR, you would always strive to keep it simple. But what if a slightly complicating play will get a ding from the bot but is likely to widen the PR difference between you and Oppo? Then it's not just an option--you should do it.
7. The above assumes the PR difference will widen in your favor LOL. Always be honest, at least with yourself, regarding how strong your opponent is. At Heroes, take a quick look at their rating, yes, but also their PR, latest-100 PR, and win percentage. How do they look compared to your stats?
8. Take a break from the game if you're not enjoying it the way you did in the past. Don't let backgammon eat your life!

My two cents, or maybe now it's three cents with inflation. I'll be interested to see what other people here advise. Whatever they say, it might help me, too!
