In Response To: Diff 8/6 v 10/8 ? Position of the Day 08-03-26 - Rollout #nobody (OpenWheel)

(a) 8/6 gives Blue an extra builder that he can use to subsequently hit inside without breaking an inside point.

(b) 8/6 gives Blue seven checkers that directly threaten the blot on his 4pt plus two checkers that directly threaten the blot on his 1pt. He gets one less (seven plus one) with 10/8. The "a" and "b" counts only partially overlap.

To make the "lesser of evils" deuce decision much closer, try altering the position such that...

(1) White's 24pt blot is instead on her 23pt, under the direct eye of a second Blue 8pt spare.

or...

(2) White is anchored with 24/21, thereby eliminating any threats of getting hit immediately. Note, though, that compared to 10/8, 8/6 preserves more rolls for Blue that still add a fourth priming point (41 63 51 vs 61 31). Granted, 10/8 has the amorphous advantage of grouping spares at the center of the blockade, but now we're into much smaller tie-breaking elements that might determine the optimal deuce.
