It may be a good way to tell which has the best 0 - ply evaluation. However, for which bot actually plays backgammon the best, the other stuff matters tremendously. It seems that Hedgehog does not take the cube into account when making checker plays, even on high plys, and that is a huge weakness. As an example, if winning 2a 4a, an opening 64 played as making the 2 point is a .054 error. If just use the gammon prices for a centered cube at 2a 4a it looks a lot better.
