I have mixed emotions.

I guess an on-line qualifier potentially winning could bring more people into the game -- much as it has done in poker.

On the other hand I think too many may promote the old axiom that backgammon is all luck. We know better, but perception is reality.

That is the problem with 3 point matches -- there is little chance for the luck to balance out or the skill to rise to the surface if the weaker player wins an early game or two, or, God forbid, a gammon.

You put any unknown qualifier into a 15 point match against Trabolt or Falafel or Koca and he would very likely have almost no chance of winning.
