Rollouts reduce the statistical error but not the systematic bias (i.e. misplays due to misunderstanding) and worse, you don't even have an idea about the size of the error.
Rollouts help only
- if the bot plays the situation after the move better than this position (rare)
- the move selection is better than the evalutaion

At least this are the two I know.

Part of the issue is that XG was regarded as the truth, ignoring some weird evaluations (Snake is the most extreme example).

My favorite position from a real game:

XGID=---a--A--BBB--ABa---BbAaAA:0:0:1:41:5:6:1:7:10

Roll it out with whatever setting you like. With the usual settings the best move is regarded as 300 blunder.

You may feed it to BGSage, I'm *very* confident it finds the same solutions as BGBlitz (even with 1-ply). And most humans agree as well.
