Otherwise, we usually face a double shot since white enters ~75% of the time.

No, we don't. A few rolls expose a direct shot from the bar, but most of the time we're facing a fly shot from the bar, with a few extra shots due to the second checker. That's far worse for white and makes the pass obvious.
