Making the 12 point means we'll just need to clear it next roll. However, it has the advantage of giving white some difficult decisions depending on what she rolls. Split to maximize shots? run the blot? shuffle the board?

If we hit with 18/8 her play should be fairly obvious for most rolls.

So the practical play against a human would seem to be making the 12. But that's not the question. Hitting gives 9 dancing rolls and only four return hits. But then we'll still have the problem of bringing both runners around so even a dance is not game over.

I'm not seeing many gammons, so I'll go with "win by racing" and make the 12. But I won't be at all surprised if hitting is XG's play.
