A few things...

The Midwest ABT is capped at 64 players so to be really correct about Open participation you'd want to add the players in Open Overflow to that total.
Yes, that's probably best, even though the overflow folks don't get to compete for the 64-player flight prize pool. Also, I ought to have noted rebuys, since cold cash in the prize pool is cool, if not as cool as warm bodies in the playing room.
Also the big money doubles events, like all doubles events, aren't ABT events.
I think I know what you mean, especially if you're thinking of the Pro-Am doubles, which I didn't include in the list -- and of course the big money doubles events don't count for ABT Tour points. But Markowitz's "American Doubles" and "World Doubles" were marketed together with his ABT "Las Vegas Open" and ABT "New York Metropolitan Open." Both the NVBG and Chicagopoint sites give the impression that all four events are ABT events.
For example, the tournament(s) in Las Vegas in November 2007:
Markowitz' website calls them "The Las Vegas Open and American Doubles Backgammon Tournament." Chicagopoint reports the results as "ABT - LAS VEGAS OPEN BACKGAMMON TOURNAMENT & AMERICAN DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP."
Similarly with the tournament(s) in Jersey City, New Jersey in Jan 2008:
"The 2008 New York Metropolitan Open and The World Doubles Championship" on the nvbg.com site, and "ABT - NEW YORK METROPOLITAN OPEN & WORLD DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP" at chicagopoint.com.
