With a contingent up from NYC and also NJ, myself, Bill Davis, Harvey Gillis, and several Canadians who play in Open in Novi, I'd say that the field was at least half (I think a bit more than half) legit open players and the rest being intermediates. There was no one I'd call a beginner.

The format is what Eden call a modified double elim. The winner of the undefeated bracket..ie Richard wins the T, while the loser of the finals, (Lynn) plays the winner of the once defeated bracket for 2/3rd places. There is no last chance.

While I like to see different formats, this format could and should, IMHO, pay another place when the turnout is the much. Therefore the loser of the loser's bracket finals could be awarded 4th place.
