With Bronstein clocks you are given a per-move allowance (12 seconds in the US) and a total match reserve time (2 minutes per match point per player). If you make your move in less than 12 seconds no reserve time is used up and you get your full 12 seconds for every move. Only when you use more than 12 second per move to you start to use up your reserve time.

If you use up all your reserve time, you lose the match, regardless of the current score.
