ETs and dice

The extraterrestrial question strikes me as being similar to the unfair-dice question.

Dice: Question: "When we measure the number of doubles, for example, why do they fall within the range of what you'd expect from random dice?" Answer: "The server/software is smart enough not to be so obvious."

ETs: Question: "Why isn't there more compelling evidence of extraterrestrial visits?" Answer: "Any being smart enough to travel great distances to our planet is smart enough to keep its presence here a secret."

In both cases, there is no way to prove the question one way or the other.
