After the hit the opponent will usually enter and run one checker and be in a similar position but 5 pips worse in the race (or better in timing). This is better for the race but he will not be forced off the ace point as quickly. I expect it will be an extremely small difference, but since it is a main variation I think the answer to this question will decide it.
To go against your 13 roll idea suppose he enters with 11 or 12. Then you've lost one turn to possibly point on him. Also suppose he fans. On your big doubles it is now a double shot.
