If it makes you start falling into bad habits it may even be detrimental and I would suggest stopping before that time.

Sometimes you just need to do a 2 ply shot count. I am one to go to counting things more quickly than most, but to me this position really cried out for it. If you are not able to do that (or in a practical sense unwilling to) it may be better practice time to read a book about mental calculations. I suggest Mathemagics by Art Benjamin.

On a related note, in a clock match you may sometimes need to bypass the counting. On your other position for example I pretty quickly came to the conclusion that the plays would be extremely close and would not spend time on it in a clocked match. In this one though, I fairly quickly realized that if I took a little bit of time there were countable things that might really help.
