Yes many schools have become wimpier about the weather ? Do they close school in ND, rural MN, or rural ME/VT/NH where it is commonly below zero ? Heck no..so why close them here just bcuz it is cold. OK if it were -20 F and with a howling wind, I could understand.

Anyhow..-13F Monday morning and my fingers and especially thumbs were starting to freeze inside my gloves since my train was 10 minutes late. The outsides of my thumbs were starting to turn blue and felt a bit scrunchy like the tissue was starting to freeze.
