I don't know about the general rule here, but I'll risk making the error of hitting. Having a third checker sent back is not that serious since gammons don't count. Meanwhile making the 9 doesn't seem that appealing since we might find ourselves figthing an advanced anchor while having two back checkers that don't see daylight.
