The name of it was different

In Response To: Dan Harrington won backgammon WC? (Chuck Bower)

I don't remember the exact year, but I do remember the incident, somewhere around that time. Dan won a tournament in DC that IIRC was called the "United States Championship". I have no idea whether it was "authorized" in some way to be called that, who ran it, or who else played in it.
