After "finally" looking at Chuck's link, I see what you were talking about. I wish I had saved myself the time of my last post that I am responding to now though. That said, it was perhaps informative for those not familiar with tournament chess.

Anyway, Robertie was claimed to have won the US Speed Chess Champion 1970. I don't know what the time limits were for that, or where it was held. But if it was held at the US Open for example, a tourney which isn't nearly as prestigious as its namesake in golf or tennis, then it is doubtful to call it a demonstration of world class. Perhaps if it was held at the US (Closed) Invitational then that would be more impressive, to me anyway.
