Using a Core 2 Duo

To set a 'friendly' priority (and to keep those settings) using the GUI version of GNU Backgammon (the 'normal' version)
Issue the command: Set priority
abovenormal Set priority to above normal
belownormal Set priority to below normal
highest Set priority to highest
idle Set priority to idle
nice Specify priority numerically [value]
To enter that command:
View (from the menu)
Choose 'Panels' 'command'
You'll get a (small) Command window bottom right of your board.
In that window, type:
set priority idle
or
set priority belownormalDo NOT forget to do:
Settings... Save Settings afterwards
This way you'll get the same settings next time you start GNU Backgammon
