Merely reasonable ? Are you distracted by the modest 0.019 number ?
With gammon already saved, if it's a strong pass, surely the double, even if not that profitable, deserves to be called strong as well. Or, seen another way, not doubling and telling oneself "it's only a 0.02 error" would be pretty complacent.
I was the one who did the doubling here, and the gammon is most certainly not saved for black/blue, white already has 6 checkers off.
I did feel that I was a strong favorite to make a small prime that I can trap white off from anchoring quite easily, and also comfortably roll it home, but the score is massively skewing the cube actions here. I posted this merely to demonstrate how much is needed to get a cube out that can be passed, after this type of game has played out to this point. As anyone who knows me will tell you, I dont fear the cube in any way.
Whilst evaluating the position prior to shipping, the question that I did ask myself was "Am I prepared to play for the match from here?", obviously, I decided that yes I was, but its an important question to ask when you get to these decisions that are 4 away or smaller.
